Tampere Deck and Event Arena

How to design and built on the top of railway in a complex city environment and how models were utilized in different purposes

Excursion starts at 15.00 and finishes at 16.30

Venue: Ramboll office - Kansikatu 5 B

The Tampere Deck and Arena is a part of a major change taking place in the central station district of the third largest city in Finland. An exceptional and highly challenging project results as a unique urban activity center integrated above the railroad tracks in the middle of Tampere.

Extending over two hectares, the new deck will support a multipurpose arena for circa 17,000 spectators, offices, retail premises, apartments, a hotel and a casino, and the project also includes the construction of training and parking facilities. In total, the development covers a gross area of 125,900 m2. Its construction kicked off in 2017 and it was completed 2022.

Being nominated as the winner of global Tekla BIM Awards in category Sports and Recreational projects, Tampere Deck and Arena is an exceptional example of utilizing BIM in a complex hybrid project.

Developing the Tampere railway station area -project

Excursion starts at 14.00 and finishes at 16.00

Tampere railway station area -project by Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency is located in the center of Tampere, in the heart of the new Kansi area connecting the east and west sides of the Tampere city center. The project will improve the functionality of the Tampere passenger rail yard, the conditions of passengers and the maintenance of passenger trains. The changes made will enable the future development of the entire Kansi area and the Station Center in terms of the arrangements for the passenger rail yard. The project scope also includes several demanding overpass and underpass sites. The financiers of the project are the Väylävirasto, the city of Tampere, VR Yhtymä Oy and Fintraffic Raide Oy.

    • Tuomas works as a BIM-Coordinator at Kreate Oyj, which is one of the biggest infra contractors in Finland. They utilize model-based methods widely in their rail, road, bridge, and industrial projects.
