On 11-12 September 2018 the World Summit on Digital Built Environment WDBE 2018 will showcase a unique portfolio of ideas, projects and businesses from the digital forefront of design, construction, property and real estate.

WDBE 2018 brings together clients, owners, executors and end users and it will cover the whole range of solutions from niche technologies to global services. The floor is open both to private innovators and public authorities. It’s showcasing, but it’s not about bragging – it’s about people coming together and coming up with yet more new ideas.

Main themes of the Summit will be technology platforms, enabling technologies (IoT, data, analytics), business models and ecosystems. User experience, best public practices and country reports from around the world will also be covered. The total number of presentations will exceed 100.

WDBE 2018 has already confirmed an impressive line-up of keynote speakers. Forest Flager’s US-based company Katerra is only three years old, but it just closed an 865 MUSD investment from Softbank to speed up processes in the construction industry. Torben Klitgaard carries the helm at BLOXhub, a Danish version of national digital development platform. Paul Doherty’s The Digit Group currently signed four remarkable Smart City projects to China. Brett Young’s BuildingSP brings big data to help with BIM processes and Andrew Watts’ Newtecnic has modelled the most demanding projects from Morocco to Mexico and from Kuwait to China.

Lene Esperssen, CEO at the Danish Association of Architectural Firms, has 10 years of experience as Government Minister and currently also chairs Aalborg University. Kjetil Tonning is responsible for heavy construction at Scandinavia’s fourth largest contractor Veidekke and will also become the next President of European Construction Industry Federation FIEC. The Finnish Minister of the Environment, Energy and Housing Kimmo Tiilikainen has promised to deliver a wakeup call in the first morning.

WDBE 2018 is currently growing to become the most comprehensive cross-section of digital developments in the built environment. The branch is coming to a turning point where new major opportunities arise and the old school approach is challenged from all directions. The result, we believe, will be substantial growth both in productivity and quality.

WDBE will be realized by KIRA-digi – Finnish Government’s key project to create an open and interoperable information management ecosystem for the built environment – together with RIL Events, the further education arm of the Finnish Association of Civil Engineers RIL.
