SBE19 approached sustainable built environment from three different aspects

Sustainable Built Environment conference SBE19 Helsinki debated emerging concepts for the three pillars of sustainability: environmental (Clean Planet), economic (Shared Prosperity) and social (Happy People). These elements were linked with relevant Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals complementing SDG11 Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

The keynoters introduced novel approaches to climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience, such as circular procurement, social license to operate and nature-based solutions for healthy indoor and outdoor environments in exciting and inclusive cities. 120 experts from 23 countries brought in their views to sustainability that can be still developed further towards the next World Sustainable Built Environment Conference in Gothenburg 9-11 June 2020.

SBE19 Helsinki program including video interviews and presentations can be found following the link. The conference proceedings are published online.

Feedback received from the SBE partners Wim Bakens Anders Persson: “The use of sli.do was rather actively used in both plenary and parallel sessions and resulted in a, far more than customary, interactive conference. Circular building was a much emphasized and discussed topic. Excellent organisation, positive appreciation by all attendees.”

SBE19 Helsinki was organized by the Finnish Association of Civil Engineers RIL and Sustainability Laboratory Oy SLAB 22-24 May 2019 in Helsinki as part of SBE conference series that were held during 2018-2019.
