Renovation of Suomenlinna tunnel

 
Suomenlinna tunnel brings public infrastructure services to World Heritage site Suomenlinna’s residents, employees and visitors. The tunnel was in poor condition; water leaks have caused corrosion for technical systems, especially for electrics and there were also high levels of radon which limited working time in tunnel. 
 
An alliance formed by YIT, Pöyry and the Governing Body of Suomenlinna was responsible for the planning, construction and implementation of the renovation project. The tunnel’s renovation ensured the continuity of public infrastructure services in the district of Suomenlinna and the safety of the tunnel’s maintenance personnel, while reducing maintenance costs and extending the tunnel’s lifecycle.
